Working at Animates has often been described as working in a zoo! It is busy, fun, often chaotic and of course pets and families everywhere! It is definitely not for the faint hearted but is a fantastic environment filled with many internal training opportunities as part of the Animates Training Academy.
We have many roles within both the stores and support centre, all with the same goals of responsible pet ownership and creating an awesome experience for our customers and our Friends for Life Club members.

Animates Training Academy
Qualified Pet Consultant
All new employees go through extensive training to ensure we give our customers an awesome experience. Responsible pet ownership is our number one priority so in this self paced training you will learn about Pets, Customer Service, Policy and Procedures, Animal Health and Welfare and the Animates Values and Philosophies.
Dog Behavioural Advisors
Any team member who has completed the initial training is able to be trained and assessed to qualify as a Dog Behavioural Advisor. The first few months of a puppy’s life are extremely important and our Dog Behaviour Advisors are not only trained to help with chewing problems, toileting, teaching house rules etc, they are also trained to take Head Start classes – which are our version of Plunket!
Pet Nutrition Advisors
Every pet is different; however we all want the same thing – for them to be healthy and happy for as long as possible. The correct nutrition for every pet is essential to ensuring they have everything they need for a great start in life and to ensure any special needs are taken care of. Our PNAs go through extensive training to ensure they can give the best possible advice on the needs of a pet depending on its breed, age and current health. Of course they also help our customers understand the technical speak on food!

Stockroom Management
Our stores are nothing without the right product on the shelf looking fantastic and being easy for our customers to find. Our stockroom managers are responsible for this area of the store and the management of their merchandising team to ensure we have effective merchandising, accurate stock inputting, efficient stock movements, well executed promotions and a well organised stock room. This is a full on role. Luckily we have a full time Stockroom manager trainer to ensure these team members are fully trained and ready to succeed.
Animates Management Training
As we all know, success and a fun work environment starts at the top, so we want to ensure that every Animates store is run by a driven, motivated leader. We are extremely passionate about having home grown managers who know what it’s like to be part of the team, so career advancement is a very real possibility within the Animates business. Many members of the senior management team have come from the shop floor.
The Animates Academy offers a management programme to all team members. This is a self paced course with interactive learnings from your manager and regional manager. On average this is a 6 month course however your learning and your progress all comes down to you!
