Doors

If you know cats then you’ll know they love to go in and out of doors, and if you don’t have a cat door or a cat flap then you’ll very quickly end up being their designated door-opener. As well as the convenience of not having to get up and down to let them in and out, a cat door or cat flap can help improve their quality of life. Outdoor access allows your cat to get some exercise, mental stimulation, and take care of their ‘business’ when it suits them.

There are a huge range of cat doors and cat flaps to suit your place. A cat door or cat flap can be installed in glass, sliding doors, or in wood, and it can even be installed through a wall. Most cat flaps or cat doors can be locked, and some can be adjusted to allow your cat to come in but not out, and vice-versa. There are also microchip cat flaps and cat doors which will only let your cat in via a small chip attached to its collar – it’s like your cat having its own key to your house and will stop other cats coming in uninvited.

When choosing a cat flap or cat door, think about where it is going – in a wooden wall or door, or through a pane of glass or sliding door. Once you’ve decided that, you can choose the cat flap or cat door that you like the look of and install it yourself or get someone to do it for you – this is recommended for cat doors or cat flaps that will be going into glass.
