You’ll want to decide what breed would suit, from a mixed-breed moggy to purebreds – there are a lot of kitten breeds to choose from. When it comes to caring for your kitten, different kitten breeds differ in their need for attention, for example long-haired cats will need more grooming. When you’ve got your heart set on your new feline friend, it’s a good idea to ask if they’ve been checked by a vet, treated for worms and fleas, microchipped, desexed, and what vaccinations they’ve had.

When it’s time to bring your new kitten home, you’ll need a few things to keep your kitten happy. Think about what type of cat food you’ll feed your kitten. You’ll need a litter tray and litter to help toilet train your kitten, a nice cat bed for your kitten to feel safe in, kitten toys for your playful new friend, cat feeders, water bowls, scratching posts so they don’t turn their attention to your furniture, and even a cat door so you don’t become a constant door-opener for your cat.
